Color Correcting - A Cool Tip for Warm Weather

5/5/2016

Using Color Correcting Concealers is an extra step that can be taken before or after foundation has been applied to the face. I personally prefer to “color correct” before applying foundation.

In future blogs I’ll talk about many of the various Color Correcting Concealers like lavender, green, yellow and more; however today I want to focus on how to effectively conceal dark marks!!

In the picture on the left, you’ll see my model before I used color correction on a dark spot, beneath her eye, from a scar.  In the picture on the right, you'll see the  marvelous after-affect that was created when I used an Orange Color Correcting Concealer.
Color Correcting - Before
Color Correcting - After

You may be thinking “orange”??   Admittedly, orange may not sound very appealing, but as you can see, the orange neutralizes the blue under-tone of the dark area and works really well for a very natural outcome when applied properly under foundation.  Orange Color Correcting Concealer is commonly used around the mouth area and in the under-eye area.

As warmer weather approaches, this can be a cool and beneficial step, because by neutralizing the darker areas of the face, less foundation is required and flawless coverage is even easier to achieve.

Makeup primer is used to help your foundation stay in place and go on smoothly.

Varying skin types will determine the type of primer that will be best for you.

There are Primers for oily ,dry or aging skin or skin types that need refining due to acne scarring large pores and more.

Primer can be a cream, a lotion or a serum.

Primers can be worn alone or under foundation

A great trick for the upcoming a warmer weather is using a  BB  or CC cream.
This product is used under foundation but used alone offers a great natural look to the skin,  will give very light coverage and will aid in camouflaging dark marks and dark  circles.

This is a great tip for when running quick errands or looking stress free at the gym!!

Bring More Light Into Your Life... With Strobing!

1/6/2016

There are so many ways you can enjoy a fresh new look, full of warmth and vitality.  Here's a technique that could be is especially  suited for you.....
Picture
My model is showing off the highlighting work I performed with the method and effects known as  STROBING. When you think of Strobing think of bringing more light into your life! That’s a good thing during some of the dreary winter months.

This technique is perfect for enhancing the highest point of the face, cheek bones, bridge of nose, forehead and chin.
The products used in this technique to produce this result will typically contain shimmer or iridescent qualities.  There are various ways to achieve the desired effect and on my model I applied the technique where concealer has been applied.  This technique works well over foundation or even on a bare face.   Here, I applied the strobing effect with loose powder; however you can produce great results with creams, liquids and pressed forms of iridescent makeup as well.

.hen choosing a highlighter for medium to deep skin tones, shades of copper, rose gold, and deep gold work very well.  For light to medium skin tones you may want to select high-lighter shades containing pearl tones, cool tones,  light gold, and peachy tones …they work great!

You can have fun all year round with this technique, bringing you a very natural-looking, radiant effect. For those who don’t want a lot of contouring or makeup, it can be the perfect pick-me-up.

If your skin tends to be oily, you can still enjoy the beautiful effects of Strobing.
A bit more care may be required to achieve the same results.  It’s well worth the effort….just use a good primer. What’s a good primer? That’s the topic for my next blog!  I’ll go into detail with you on finding the best primer for your skin type and importance and benefits of using a good primer.

Contouring Can Add Life and Lift to Your Face!

12/1/2015

Although foundation is an essential step, after it has been applied, the natural highlights and contour of the face will have been concealed under the foundation and that can result in a flat or uniform appearance of the face.  That's why contouring is important after the foundation stage....it will bring definition back to your facial features and even more.

The techniques for contouring are as varied as the individual woman. That's  what makes it such a unique and personal experience.  Still there are some basic techniques that apply to all faces.

Typical parts of the face that will benefit with contouring:
  • the cheek bones
  • the bridge of the nose
  • and around the forehead area
  • and for added dimension,  under the chin, for a slimming effect if desired
Picture
Contouring is done with a cream foundation or concealer that is at least two shades darker than your regular foundation and depending on the look you want to achieve, you can go as deep as four shades darker.  Powder can be used for this technique also and for beginners powder may be easier to start with.

Whether using cream or powder,  the key to a flawless contour is to BLEND... BLEND... and BLEND some more.

Did you know that contouring can do all of this:
  • give you an incredible look especially for the shape of your face
  • draw attention to your best features
  • conceal many unflattering features
  • give you a fuller look if desired
  • complement a thin face
  • bring balance to the entire face
  • give you the look of a flawless complexion
  • be easy enough for a daily routine
  • and much,  much more!

Depending on the results you’d like to accomplish, contouring can be applied to all of the places I’ve suggested or to just one area…or to a combination of areas.  That means you can develop contouring techniques that can work for you on a very special occasion or can be used for a quick, everyday pick-me-up.

One of my highest recommendations is, “Don’t overlook the cheek bones”.... that's a great place to start your contouring, especially if you are trying to learn the  techniques of contouring on your own.

Of course, my primary recommendation is to connect with me.  Relax and allow me give you a professional contouring session, especially for your unique face, complexion and skin type.  You'll come away with a dazzling new look and full of self-confidence.... plus you’ll be on my mailing list to learn about new trends in contouring for the future.  I'm Looking forward to seeing you soon!
