Treatments used for cancer can also leave your skin more sensitive to the Sun. That’s why I’m capitalizing the word and why I’m referring to it as the “Friendly Foe”.

We all love the Sun, but survivors and especially recovering patients should remember, when you are going outside, use a Sunblock of at least 30 SPF (sun protection factor) is a relative measure of how long a sunscreen will protect you from ultraviolet (UV) B rays or higher.)

This is an important step that can often be overlooked by women of color, who also may have higher statics with cancer.  The rules I’m sharing with you apply in both hot and cooler weather:

·         Plan to give yourself 30 mins prior to going out for the benefit of full protection from the Sun.

·         If your lifestyle requires you to be outside for extended periods of time or outdoors in the water, remember to reapply your Sunscreen. To help as a reminder, set a timer on your phone or mobile device so you will know exactly when to reapply.

·         For applying Sunscreen with spf , products come in several different forms of application such as oils, lotions, and sprays.  The sprays with 360 degree triggers can be the easiest allowing you spray the front and back of your body from head to toe, all by yourself.

An extra tip:  Check out  fresh Aloe in your local grocery store. It can be stored in the fridge and using Aloe at a cooler temperature can bring soothing relief to irritated skin.
